With the start of the new school year comes possibilities. This could be the year you begin your journey towards National Board certification. How do you know if you are eligible?

If you answered yes to both questions, you are eligible.
Did you know that there are 8,863* National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) in SC? In fact, SC has the third highest number of NBCTs in the nation. You could be one of them. The National Board of Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) has been in existence since 1987, and it is a peer-reviewed process that is led primarily by classroom teachers. There are over 110,000 NBCTs in the United States.

There are five core propositions that guide the National Board process.
If you are interested in learning more about the National Board process, visit http://boardcertifiedteachers.org/first-time-candidates to learn more about the the 25 different certification areas and the standards.
Before making the decision, consider the following:
*How much time can devote to the process this year?
*What resources do you already have, and what resources will you need?
*Have you talked with SC NBCTs in your certificate area?
*Have you reached out to your school district’s liaison for support?
*There is support that may be available in your school, district, or region.
Is this your year? If so, be sure to register before the January 31st deadline.

The workshop will be held from 4:00-5:15 on September 22nd. Participants may join the meeting via phone or computer.

- Do you have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university?
