National Board Certified Teachers' Impact in South Carolina

In March 2008, CERRA survey more than 2,000 NBCTs who were teaching in South Carolina at the time. This highly anticipated survey affirms what other research says about the impact of National Board Certification and provides facts and figures specific to NBCTs in the Palmetto State. The report was published in March 2010.

Supply and Demand Survey

Annually CERRA conducts a statewide Supply and Demand Survey in which information is collected from all school districts in South Carolina. The compiled survey is made available in November/December through www.CERRA.org and presents an overall view of trends in teacher retention, sources of employee hires, and much more for the current school year. This information is used to project teacher shortage areas by subject area and by district.

Teacher Turnover Data

Each summer the South Carolina Department of Education releases its teacher turnover data which are available on the CERRA website. The most recent data reflect turnover rates from 2007-2008 to 2008-2009.

Average South Carolina Teacher Salary

The South Carolina Department of Education has provided CERRA with teacher salary information. The figures are presented by teacher experience and education statewide and by district.

Race and Gender Statistics of South Carolina Teachers

The South Carolina Department of Education has provided CERRA with race and gender data of South Carolina teachers. The figures are presented by district and reflect the most recent data available.

2008 Survey of Certified, Inactive Teachers in South Carolina

There are approximately 20,000 individuals in South Carolina who have kept their teaching certification current but are no longer teaching in a South Carolina public school. This critical piece of information, along with their contact information, provided by the State Department of Education enabled CERRA to target these certified, inactive teachers and find out what measures would convince them to teach again.

Local National Board Summit Recommendation Report

Malia Dunn, a National Board Certified Teacher in Chesterfield County and former member of the CERRA Advisory Board, hosted the state's first-ever Local National Board Summit at Hartsville Middle School on September 29, 2007. NBCTs from surrounding counties attended the summit and generated recommendations pertinent to National Board Certified Teachers at the local level. The full report, released in November 2007, is available for download.
