Vaughn Promoted to Program Director

ROCK HILL, S.C. Brett Vaughn, who has served as a Teacher in Residence for the past year at the Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement has been promoted to fill the vacant Pre-Service Program Director. Her primary responsibilities will be the management of CERRA’s Teaching Fellows program and National Board Certification.
 
“Ms. Vaughn’s commitment, expertise and enthusiasm for CERRA and, specifically, for these programmatic areas are evident in her work,” said Executive Director Gayle Sawyer, Ph.D. “She came to CERRA as a Teacher in Residence with the highest recommendations from her district has exemplified CERRA’s spirit of service, excellence and creativity throughout her career. She is a hard-working member of our team and is a top-notch representative of the teaching profession.
 
In her year as Teacher in Residence for Region One (Upstate), Vaughn was instrumental in the development of CERRA’s National Board Candidate Support Toolkit, which is being unveiled this week at the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards National Conference and Exposition in Washington, D.C. Vaughn, along with CERRA representatives Jane Hardin, Cyndi Pride and Malia Dunn are at the NBPTS conference to present the toolkit, which is a set of online candidate support materials to be used by current National Board Certified Teachers to assist those persons going through the certification process. Vaughn became National Board Certified in November 2001.
 
Additionally, Vaughn has worked closely with outgoing Program Director Jane Hardin in the selection process of Teaching Fellows and in the developing the evaluation procedure for Teaching Fellow programs. The Teaching Fellows program awards up to 175 scholarships each year, valued at $24,000 over a four-year college education, to students who commit to teaching in South Carolina upon graduation.
 
Prior to joining CERRA in August 2006, Vaughn taught first and fourth grades at Stone Academy of Communication Arts from 1997-2004 and was an Instructional Coach at Heritage Elementary School in the School District of Greenville County . She received her B.S. in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from the College of Charleston and her Master’s degree in Elementary School Leadership from Furman University.
