Columbia, SC –   A special edition of the “In Our Schools” television program in early April spotlights the energetic, optimistic educator now serving as South Carolina’s State Teacher of the Year.

The half-hour telecast airs from 4 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 5, on South Carolina ETV.  “In Our Schools” is a special series designed for parents, educators and community partners and produced by ITV, which is part of the Department of Education, with ETV’s assistance.

The program will help viewers understand why Jenna Hallman was selected as the state’s top teacher for 2008-09.  A science teacher at Calhoun Academy of the Arts in Anderson School District Five, Hallman was named Teacher of the Year last April.  Since that time, she’s been traveling South Carolina to meet educators and students, bringing her positive message about why teaching is her chosen profession and first love.

An ETV camera crew went to Hallman’s classroom at Calhoun Academy of the Arts to see her working with students, integrating teaching techniques that make learning real while challenging young minds. She also talks about her experiences as South Carolina’s “education ambassador,” representing the more 50,000 teachers working across the state.

The broadcast joins Hallman for a visit to Herbert A. Wood Elementary in Lexington School District Two, where she met students and teachers to share her enthusiasm and optimistic view on public education.

Sunday’s telecast will be repeated on April 9 and April 13 from 10:30 to 11a.m. on Channel 1 for taping by schools (unlimited rights).
