SCEA Announces NBCT Recommendations
ROCK HILL, S.C.—The South Carolina Education Association will officially release the Supporting and Staffing High-Needs Schools report, published by The SCEA, the National Education Association and the Center for Teaching Quality Tuesday, April 17, at noon in the Statehouse and your attendance is encouraged.
“This report represents the brain trust of South Carolina’s most accomplished teachers who know what it takes to improve teaching and learning in our state's schools,” said Kathy Schwalbe, a National Board Certifed Teacher and Program Director for the Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement. “We are proud of the role we played to bring this level of attention to the expertise of National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) and, more importantly, to amplify their voices as they shared what they know with policymakers.”
The NBCT Policy Summit, held August 5, 2006, was attended by more than 400 of the state’s NBCTs, policymakers and members of the business community to make recommendations for future funding and requirements of the National Board Certification program. Eight months and countless hours of behind-the-scenes later the SCEA will release its findings and results in the Supporting and Staffing High-Needs Schools report.
Schwalbe says this report highlights some real solutions for the real problems the state has with staffing high need schools.
“We hope all educators will sit up and take notice of the recommendations in this report.”
Join State Superintendent Dr. Jim Rex at the Statehouse for the announcement releasing the formal recommendations from the first-ever NBCT Policy Summit. If you will be in the Columbia area on Tuesday try to attend this news conference and encourage policymakers to do so as well in support of furthering proper funding and support for the National Board program in South Carolina.
