Welcome to my blog...
Let me first say that it is such an honor to have been selected to represent all the wonderful teachers in the state of South Carolina. For those who were there at the banquet you witnessed someone who was completely shocked at receiving such an honor. The picture in the local paper gave a glimpse of the surprise and overwhelming emotions my family and I experienced that evening. I was caught so off guard by the announcement and things happened so quickly that night I can remember only small snippets of that Friday evening. I do remember wanting to hug, talk, high-five and celebrate with my friends and colleagues who were there but instead I was being rushed off from one place to another. I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of you and I will do my best to catch up with each of you throughout the year. If you are reading this then you know that I have started a blog. I have read blogs on rare occasions and never imagined writing my own. There are few reasons for this. One is that I was quite certain no one would care to read what I would have to say. Secondly, I am a mix of extrovert and introvert, I am a laughing and sharing person, yet introspective with my deepest thoughts and somewhat insecure. Lastly, writing is not one of the arrows in my quiver of talents. If it exits at all, it would be the bright blue arrow with a suction cup on one end. However I do have an enthusiasm for teaching that exists there, I find no greater joy than the moment a student learns something they felt was beyond them. When that moment happens, I go home and talk about it incessantly, much to my wife’s chagrin. I also have a work ethic that allows me to do more with less. My students often make comments about the creation or updated times on my files being in the wee hours of the morning. Since blogging is new to me and writing is not my strength those who have be regular readers of Jenna’s Journal will see a different style in Bryan’s Blog. You will not be reading flowing prose in the literary style of Jenna Hallman. You will get succinct musings instead. I will work to keep you up-to-date with my travels. Hopefully you will grow accustomed to my sardonic wit and unusual take. I look forward to my many opportunities to grow as a person and an educator. I will share my experiences and I implore you to share your experiences and viewpoints with me this year too. We all make a difference in so many lives each day, yet our collective strength can create a synergistic force that we can only imagine.
